We here at Smooth Moves for Seniors are concerned about senior safety here in Indianapolis, Indiana. (Just to let you know- AARP has redefined seniors as those 50+ years). Many seniors don’t like to ask for help, so as we are visiting our elderly loved ones this holiday season, it’s our responsibility to make sure they are doing well. So read on to find out about things to look for when visiting, along with some great gift ideas that will really put a smile on their face!
We know that many seniors are facing tough times this winter with increased heating cost and real estate taxes. We also know that many will be too proud to ask for help and will resort to unsafe ways to save money, such as using the oven to stay warm or using an old space heater with extension cords strung together- SO dangerous! So keep your eyes open when visiting elderly this holiday and see if they are need help but not asking for it.
It also may be a good idea to paste some call for help numbers (utility company’s relief numbers etc.) on the fridge by their medication records.
When visiting our elderly loved ones we always want to give them that gift that they really want or need. Often, gifts of service are the best!
